This is the second of the three gateways leading into Birgu. It is situated a few metres behind the Advanced Gate and at right angles to it. It is approached through another bridge. This would have been the second line of defence in case of an attack on the city. When you go through the gate at the far end is a ramp that leads to the top of this line of fortifications. To the right are higher walls which incorporate the third gate.

The lighting and the fact that it's night, make it seem even stronger. I'm always amazed by these ancient walls and fortifications- the hours and labor force it must have taken to build them is astounding. Good shot!
