The bay is still covered in ice and a gray mixture of fog, mist, and light rain. The railroad baron (James Hill) purposely laid the tracks between the town and the lake. After that he refused to have his trains stop
in Wayzata. The early Capitalist barons weren't the nicest people to have a dispute with. Today much more subtle, but same results.
Why did he put the tracks in front of the lake? And does that sign say thin ice? Do they just put up signs in the spring, when the ice starts to be thin and dangerous? or is that fence/sign there all winter? I am a southerner, so ...I do not know how that works. So much to see in this deceptively " simple" scene...seems minimal at first, but there is alot to study! Love it. fav
@espyetta To punish the town over some disagreement, so I have heard. The sign does say thin ice not sure when it or the fence was put up. Thank you so much for the fav since I consider this one of my better composed photos.
