Winchester Cathedral by megpicatilly

Winchester Cathedral

Had a go at bracketing photos to get this image. If I had taken it with one shot, the camera would have metered for either the dark shadows or the light highlights. This is three images put together in Photomatix
I love this! You have even captured the wooden structural beams behind the arches. Love the colour and lighting.

Nicely done Catherine. Are you shooting RAW too? That can give you even more control over highlights and shadows.

@redandwhite Thank you. That came through on my middle image.

@chillen Thank you. Yes, I shoot in RAW, but these were put together using JPEGs. I should really have spent more time on the RAWs before putting them together, which would have been much better.. Will take another look.

I'm sure you'll get an even better result with the RAWs Catherine.

@chillen Was short of time today but you are right and I will have another go. This is a little grainy.

Heck! And you have the cheek to say you don't have skills....honestly I'm appalled at your lack of honesty Catherine.....😉😸

This is flipping awesome! I think you need to stay there a bit longer...

A
This is really good - I must have a go at bracketing some time after seeing the results you've got here :)

Very nicely done. Being able to bracket and then put your shots together so easily with editing programs makes life so much simpler. And the light here is lovely 😊😊

Very cleverly done, I love it. The lighting is spectacular.

Well done fav

I am so impressed with the fabulous lighting here - have never tried something like this - I understand the theory of what you're saying but definitely not the know-how. This is stunning.

Most impressive. Excellent shot. Fav.

Beautiful lighting highlighting the arches....gorgeous shot.

So beautiful. Love the light!

Excellent, HDR is so useful for this type of occasion.

I had the good fortune to spend a few days @Winchester a couple of years ago VM enjoyed and appreciated the CAthedral and W College. A memorable girly w/e for all the right reasons.

A fantastic architecture shot and the light just makes it even better!

Such beautiful architecture

Sue
That is beautiful Cathy. Absolute fav. I'll have to ask you for a lesson on bracketing!

@cottiac hilarious!!!

@blueace thank you. It is easier to use a tripod as it is difficult not to move the camera for 3 shots but I didn't have it with me!

@paul10 thank you Paul. You can achieve the same results with just one photo in programmes like Photomatix but sometimes it is nice to do it properly!

@s4sayer it is a beautiful City. Unfortunately the college wasn't open to visitors when I was there but there were plenty of other places to see. Sounds like you had an enjoyable time too.

@brett101 @claudiet @bkbinthecity thank you. It is a beautiful cathedral and the staff are very photographer friendly!
February 9th, 2017
@suesouthwood thank you. When we get together we can have a go!
February 9th, 2017
Knew you'd hit popular with this one - and I hope I didn't cause offense...
February 9th, 2017
@cottiac thank you!! Bit surprised - it is a funny angle!! You certainly didn't offend!!!! Quite the opposite!!
February 9th, 2017
@megpicatilly Think the angle added to the image (being dyslexic I nearly typed angel...which really might have caused confusion!)
Phew...!
