Sides are Cool...

I have NO IDEA why the sides of the dessert are in focus but the foreground part is not.

This donut tiramisu was a new recipe that I saw on t.v. that I thought I'd try out for my birthday dessert this year. I think I'll stick with traditional tiramisu from now on.

Nice shot. Are you using center metering? It looks like your camera choice to focus on the sides. Try using only the middle focal point of the camera on the front of the food. Sorry if this statement is incorrect - it looks like you are using automatic modes of your camera and not manual modes. Use manual mode to focus.

@cirasj - I'm not sure what metering I was on. I tend to fiddle with settings a lot. And yes, it was an autofocused photo, I used manual mode for the ISO, Shutter speed etc. Things turn out VERY blurry when I try manual focus.
