It's Bombogenesis! Or cyclonic bomb. Or just a plain old wicked fierce northeaster. The washing machine was frozen but it's okay now and I can do laundry again. Yay? :D
@seacreature Actually, it's a lot warmer than it has been. You can't really see the blowing snowflakes. The "fog" is falling, blowing snow.
Are you still on short water supplies? That would be really tough to deal with.
@anniesue@narayani not the washing machine itself but the water pipes that fill it. They're mounted on an exposed, north-facing cement wall. In this climate, almost a guarantee that they will freeze. Normally, it's only the trap to the outflow but our temperatures have been sub-freezing for many days now.
@meotzi Yes we are still deep in a water crisis. The crazy thing is, because we are all conserving water, and using less water in our households, the Cape Town municipality now wants to charge a levy to make up for the loss of revenue they would be getting on water usage.
@seacreature I guess municipal water companies all work the same. Some years ago the town water dept sent out notices that a lot of us were going to be charged at a higher rate because we weren't using enough water. Well, okay, I guess. The really funny part was the day after we all got those notices, the state had people canvassing our neighborhoods offering to show us how to conserve water. They didn't get a lot of takers and probably got a lot of unking words to boot. :D
