The Pergandes family settled in the central wheatbelt area of Mt Marshall in 1910.
The sheepyards were made entirely from granite slabs. The slabs were obtained by a process of firing, then rapidly cooling the surface of the rock with water. The resulting slabs of granite were then transported by horse and cart to the present site.
That is totally amazing, never seen or heard anything like it. Very interesting and historically significant. Thanks for sharing. Was there a shortage of suitable timber?
@golftragic The local trees were generally used for used fences. There was no info as to why he chose this method but it was interesting. The current owners of the farm allow public access to this area because of its historic significance.
