Pergandes Sheep Yards _DSC1762

The Pergandes family settled in the central wheatbelt area of Mt Marshall in 1910.
The sheepyards were made entirely from granite slabs. The slabs were obtained by a process of firing, then rapidly cooling the surface of the rock with water. The resulting slabs of granite were then transported by horse and cart to the present site.
This is so interesting. Terrific shot.

those are amazing - they use slabs of stone to fence in some areas of the UK, which make me wonder if this was an idea taken from there

@golftragic The local trees were generally used for used fences. There was no info as to why he chose this method but it was interesting. The current owners of the farm allow public access to this area because of its historic significance.

@merrelyn That's great isn't it? So many places shut everyone out, no matter what.

One suggestion, granite isn't affected by white ants.
