Lick Observatory

On Wed evening I organized a Lick Observatory photo shoot with 15 other local area photographers. The shoot included getting site permits and insurance. We were on top of the mountain until roughly 2am on Thu. New Moon (dark sky) and low noise pollution at about 4,300 ft elevation. The Milky Way is on the right just above the 36 inch refractor telescope. The telescope on the left is a 40 inch reflector.
that sounds like fun. great shot here, mike. aces!

Great architectural shot. Is that the Milky Way in the upper right of the photo?

Awesome. Wish I’d been there! Did you ever go up to the observatory in the Eastern Sierras with the huge dishes for tracking the sky? I guess they lost their financing and have closed down but what a thrill it was to shoot the sky there. I’ll post a shot from there so you can see what I’m referring to

@gardencat Yes, the purpose of the event was Milky Way shooting from the top and positioning the observatory in the foreground.
