Seeing the cardinals a bit more finally. The male will chase off other males, but does allow the female to stay always. Guess some things don't change in the bird kingdom.
@tonydebont I could find nothing that explains - only comment was they raise the crest sometimes when agitated and lower it when resting. I do notice the female with it up more often than the male and she never appears agitated!
Such a beautiful pair! They look quite comfortable enjoying a meal. We love to watch the Cardinal pairs during breeding season, and we're always thrilled when we see them mate feeding. We're thankful that they nest around our home every year, and it is so fun to see the young come to the feeders when they leave the nest.
