Settling His Nerves by milaniet

Settling His Nerves

Within a span of maybe 4 seconds, 6 finches hit our large kitchen window - hard! Don't know whether they were being chased or playing chase - they all fell to the patio but 5 of the 6 recovered after nearly 45 minutes and flew off. Were a mix of house finches and purple finches.
Poor number 6 :( What type of finches? We don't have those in UK. great sharp shot.

@wylieclicks This one is one of the deeper colored purple finches - at least I could get good detail - they weren't going anywhere for a while.

What beautiful colouration. We get a lot of bird strike on our windows but mostly they survive, the occasional one doesn't - so sad

Brilliant plumage and great opportunity for an excellent close-up. Fav

This bird has such beautiful color! I hope that they have learned not to fly into your house!

Great capture. I am glad that 5 out of the 6 survived. I am sad that the sixth one did not make it. Birds fly into our windows on a regular basis, even though I have taken preventative measures.

Such a beautifully coloured bird!!
February 8th, 2017
Sorry about the reason, but glad this one hung around to be captured.
February 8th, 2017
Perhaps the light on the window made it a mirror and the finches thought another bird was in their territory. This finch is so pretty!

aww, poor birds

That's so sad to see -- glad for the 5, sad for the 6th. This has happened to us on Beaver Island -- and we can't figure out how to stop it.

@taffy @lisainstpete @louannwarren @lynbonn @daisymiller @dsp2 @judithdeacon And this window has several decals that are supposed to deter birds from flying into it - obviously don't work as well as we hoped!
February 9th, 2017
aww poor things - not the brightest birds in the bush if they don't notice the decals

Such a beautiful color of reddish-pink. Poor little dears, crashing so hard against the glass. I take it one of them didn't survive the accident?
February 10th, 2017
Beautiful color and detail, and I love the unusual perspective.
February 11th, 2017
Lovely shot. It never ceases to amaze me how birds recover after they have hit window glass seemingly hard enough to break their necks. Nature is amazing. Love the colours of this one.
