On High Alert by milaniet

On High Alert

The first nuthatch that I've been able to catch - and couldn't figure why he was staying so still. Then looked in the pecan tree - a hawk. Hawk finally after flew after 10 minutes and the nuthatch went about his business.
one smart nuthatch....great focus here, so much detail

Sweet! Love to see these little fellas at our feeder... they don't stay still very long, but a hawk is probably a good reason not to move!

Interesting that he's not looking at you having judged the hawk a greater threat. Lovely detail.

The detail on this is fantastic. That much be such a scary view for those small birds! I've seen a hawk pick off a Goldfinch at my feeder-not once but twice!

Wow ... my goodness what a close up .. poor little bird ... I think this is the first of your birds which is the same as our UK ones .... watched one last year filling up the hole a wood pecker had made in a tree, only for the wood pecker to return and empty the mud ... and so they continued for quite some time ... not sure who won :) fav

Stunning capture of this beautiful nuthatch! Amazing how still they can get when they need to...otherwise they're busy as can be. I'm glad this one survived the hawk's presence. Your fabulous dof shows off its lovely markings so well!
