Front vs. Back - But Different Birds??

Guess yesterday was just a fluke with three pictures I liked - nothing of interest today. Spotted these two hawks about 200 yards away and in the top of an old dead tree. Wasn't even sure they were birds - bland white sky. But liked the composition. Quite cropped.
That is so neat to get two in the same photo. VML the processing. Looks old timey :)

Intriguing birds. I guess the one on the right is a Mississippi Kite, but not sure about the one on the left. It looks about the same size as the other, so maybe a juvenile kite or a Broad-winged Hawk? I don't see either of these species very often, so just a guess.

Ok, just checked a reference site. I think the bird on the left is an immature Mississippi Kite. Check out this photo. They must have bred there. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Mississippi_Kite/media-browser/70774221

You have to scroll thru the photos. Look for the juvenile.

Oh what fun to catch two birds together. Interesting what @annepann wrote about one being the kite. I do love birds and can scarcely tell them apart, but they are beautiful to watch

I like the composition too and the colored edges of the image.

Good catch! Jeff is the birds of prey expert in our family. But it looks like someone has already identified this pair correctly. I would definitely say they're together. As far as I know hawks, etc. are very territorial, so it's either male/female, or parent/child.

Even though clearly shot from a distance, your composition and processing make this work great

Great capture

@annepann Thanks for the id, Anne - that makes sense - he looked different than those I usually see (red-tailed, etc) even that far away.
