I hadn't seen any hawks is months - but this morning when I got back from my appointment, it had turned into a lovely day - so I took Jerik for a walk down to the park by the little creek. We were walking towards the swings when this hawk flew up from I don't know where and sat on the top of the pole. Didn't have my "good" camera (was kicking myself) but did have "a" camera - and he stayed put for quite some time letting me get close enough. Yea for the hawk!
You want a laugh - I have been wanting a hawk for my project. Recently in reviewing old pictures I found I had a picture of one. And then there was one hanging out where I used to eat my lunch when working full time. All of this has made me dream of hawks. How weird is that. Hope your hawk doesn't bring on a new dream.
Lovely capture. I had an event like that last week. Who knows when it might happen again. But great whenever it does. How high was that post? Here, the are usually up on top of a tree, if they are perched at all. So we are usually shooting way up at them.
The Powershot does a decent job in a pinch- and I find that with a little tweaking I get good results with mine. I had a Red Shoulder perch right in the tree by the bird feeder the other day but I knew I wouldn't be able to move and get my camera without him seeing me so didn't get that shot. This is a great one though!
@mbrutus My guess would be 25' tall maybe - do better estimating horizontally (think about ten yard lines on the football field!) than I do vertically. A lot shorter than that tree I try to catch him in!
