I don't do portraits, though I do take pictures of people on occasion (those I know well.) Don't have the set-up for indoor work so I'll be relying on some outdoor shots from the past (today's temperature is 4F) This is my husband Bill on our earlier trips to Colorado before his death. A fine portrait, and I love the background. I can't believe how cold t is in parts of the South. My brother in Memphis said it was 0 last night with a wicked wind chill.
Such a special portrait for you- I think it's much more meaningful to take a portrait in a natural setting. The place becomes part of the story of that person- especially like in this shot where it was on a trip you both enjoyed. I am the same way about taking portraits. I'm ok with people I know and natural settings but I'd never make it in the studio.
