Horseshoe Curve is a landmark in Altoona, PA, where the railroad tracks make a large curve to avoid going over or through the mountains.
We visited there recently. This view is from the an area at the top on an incline ride and the tracks are halfway up the mountains on the left side of the picture. The tracks are still used and we did see a train passing buy. Unfortunately, we had already rode the incline back down and could only see it looking up at the mountains. Drat!
Looks like you had a beautiful day for your incline ride! Wow, what a gorgeous view you captured. I enjoyed your commentary, and thank you for providing the link.
@byrdlip Thank you J.A. They had cleared most of the cars but there were still at least two that we saw lying on their sides. I'll share it in my second album.
A beautiful scene. I started watching the url when my husband moved over from his compute and both of us watched the video and then a few more. now you say there is another picture in album two, will go to it right away.
They just had a second derailment here on the 26th- will they ever learn how to connect those cars correctly?! I was wondering how close you were to this. Nice shot of the valley.
@olivetreeann Wow, I just went to You Tube and found video on it and it was just a little past the observation area where we were. That's amazing that it would happen again so soon. Thank you for letting me know.
@mittens Apparently that video cam is on all the time- I'm not sure where the voices are coming from but it seems it's connected to a loud speaker as well.
@byrdlip Ann above said there was another derailment on the 26th so I checked it out on you tube. Wow, two in a couple of weeks. https://youtu.be/IeVHT45vbyo
Had they cleaned the derailment by the time you were there?

You would think they would have figured out how to build a train.
