It's not often that I'm still at home when the sun rises. At least not this time of year. Equally rare is, that the sky is not covered and the morning fog thins out early, so that the view of the mountains is free. So I was totally unprepared when suddenly the mountains were visible, and the sun colored the highest peaks in red. The redish sky lasts only a moment, and I had to act quickly. I had just the time to change the lens of the camera, but not to dress. So I have been only in pajamas on the balcony (not to mention it was freeeeeezing cold), but armed with the big lens, to capture this moment of dawn. Our neighbors will make their thoughts ...
--> Bernese Alps, in the middel the trisome of Jungfrau, Eiger, Moench (from left). The Northface of the Eiger is clearly visible.
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go... to say it with John Denver,... no we are not leaving with a jet plane, but we are heading towards northern Italy for skiing. I look forward to this break.
Gorgeous shot! Switzerland is quite possible the most beautiful place in the world. When we visited this area, we didn't want to leave, just too beautiful!
Beautiful lighting! I have, for the past two days, been trying to capture a similar image with the rocky mountains with no success- definitely not as effortless as you make it appear :)
Gorgeous capture Mona, fav for me. Is this what is called alpenglow? I love the way not only the peaks catch the light, but also a few little buildings farther down. Thank-you for the follow; I'm delighted to follow you back and I look forward to seeing your work.
@tristansmum Dear Stepahnie, thanks for your kind words. For me, in poetic way, yes this is alpenglow. Technically, no. The real alpenglow physically speaking, is without any direct sunlight. Means the sun is behind (still or already) the horizon and the reddish effects and the shine on the mountains, is light that travelled by billions of mini reflections, of particles in the air. Dropplets, Ice cristals, etc,... In my picture, I captured the first sunlight on the mountain. Hope I put that in the right words.
@oly Thanks for taking the time to comment and fav. The reflections are in the windows oft the buildiings from the Hotels on the Buergenstock. They are doing a lt of renovation there, you can see also the cranes.
