When I baked that caramelized cake (Tarte Tatin) yesterday, I was attracted by the jewel-like droplets of caramel and their wonderful color. So I grabbed the camera and took some pictures, handling a hot backing tray.
I was not alone, also some of you have noticed the similarity to natural Amber. What else can I do today, than dig out my small collection of Baltic amber and take a picture of those tiny jewels? They are of inferior quality (they say) because they have unwanted and irregular inclusions. I think, each and every one is wonderful. The material itself is fantastic, I love the fossil history about it, and it feels so warm and beautiful, having them in the hand or on the skin. As it is not a mineral, but a fossilized resin.
THAT is a small collection???? :) Beautiful stones, and I agree that the imperfections make it so beautiful! There is a lot of amber jewlerlly in Russia and I am always upset that most of it is just so warm and full of sunshine that it doesn't complement me in any way. What a shame. I still have some though :)
I love these pieces in themselves, and the way you've captured them, fav for me. I think the inclusions would make them even more interesting and beautiful to me.
