2019-12-13 stormy day

Another Föhn (dry, warm, down-slope wind that occurs in the lee of a mountain range) storm today. So the snow that fell over night, did not last long in our region.
AmazIng weather event! Dramatic!

It’s wonderful the way the light comes through the clouds and you captured gold tones.

Wow... this is beautiful! Our trip will be at the end of May. Starting in Frankfurt then Strasbourg, Colmar, then Switzerland for 5 nights before heading to Fussen, Salzburg, Rothenburg and back to Frankfurt. Here's a question... we're definitely going to do Jungfraujoch but we're thinking we'd also like to do the cogwheel train up to Mt. Pilatus. Do you think the two activities are too similar?? We don't have a lot of time and want to see as much as possible. Also, is Giessbach Waterfall worth a stop?

@kwind Cool, this sounds like a wonderful trip. Have fun preparing it. I guess you rent a car to get around?
Jungfraujoch is a must, I understand. But it is totally different to Mt. Pilatus. Here you can see the view from Mount Pilatus on a sunny day. You can see 360° over the Lakes of central Switzerland, as well into the Bernese Alpes. https://365project.org/mona65/365/2016-07-16 or the tag "Pilatus". There will not be al lot of snow left in May. (On the Jungfrau, you are right on the Glacier and more than 1000 meters higher.) There is an opportunity, to do a golden trip, which includes a boat ride, the cogwheel up the mountain and going down with the cable car. I would recommend to do this round tour. But if you will visite Lucerne anyway, then I would leave this open, and just see a few days in advance how the weather is. There are plenty of things to see and do in and around Lucerne, if Mt. Pilatus is in the clouds. Concerning the Giessbach Waterfall. Of course this is a very nice waterfall, with a nice hike and a cool old cogwheel train. It is a bit touristic, 'cause of the Sherlock Holmes story. Still worth it. There are other nice falls not far from th starting point of the Jungfrau ride,... like the Staubbachfälle, Trümmelbachfälle that are partly underground, or near Meiringen (where the famous meringues cookies come from) the Aare or the Rosenlaui Canyon. Hope this helps. Looking forward to see your pictures,... and contact me, if there are more questions.

@mona65 Thanks for the info. We're hoping to do the Meiringen gorge hike too. It looks so cool! I just might reach out again.

@kwind @mona65 -- what a wonderful description of a trip to take! Years ago we did the Golden Trip -- the boat, cogwheel, cablecar, and the view was spectacular as the day was beautiful. What fun you will have!

I like how this dramatic weather capture shows the sun chasing the bad weather away.
