The river used to cross my city, but it was diverted to avoid floods. The old riverbed has been made into a huge park, which is very popular with walkers, runners and cyclist.
@sugarmuser It's really interesting. Because it's such a big park (the river did cross the city) there are very different different areas (sport facilities, kids' parks, gardens, a science museum, an opera house and even an aquarium). Everything is walkable/cyclable. It's also interesting to cross the bridges over it, and look down on the park.
