Roscón de Reyes

The Three Wise Men will visit tonight, bringing gift to good kids and coal to naughty ones. This is the traditional dessert to celebrate. (In theory, it's eaten tomorrow. In practice, it's just too big for one day, so most people start it today). In the Roscón, there is a little wise man, and a bean. If you find the little man in your portion, you are crowned king/queen of the day - that's what the paper crown is there for. If you find the bean, on the other hand, you have to pay for the roscón!
This looks delicious!

Your Roscòn de Reyes looks good!
I also like your explanation. We know it slightly different from Mexico. It is then a "rosca de reyes" and inside is a little baby. Who gets the baby needs to pay for tamales on February 2nd.

@bvanamer It's a Spanish tradition - eating the roscón marks the end of Christmas!

Looks lovely to me, but I love anything like that.

@ladymagpie Thanks - it's really good, and the fact that we only eat it once a year (or until it's finished) makes it more special.

Fascinating -- there's a variation of it in New Orleans where you find a little plastic baby representing Jesus.
