Hungry Kookaburra by mozette

Hungry Kookaburra

Yesterday afternoon, I happened to look out my back door and found this gorgeous little Kookaburra sussing out my back neighbour's yard for a feed. When he heard me open my door and step out with a camera, he hopped around a complete 180 and settled in for a good fifteen minutes - all fluffing up while he sat there and I took photo after photo of him.. he seemed so content just to let me look at him through the lens.

Then, the back neighbour's brother tried to get too close and he flew off to my boundary fence of my other neighbour's place where he scoped my yard and theirs for a feed for another 20 minutes.

It's so lovely to see these birds around our yards to kill off our lawn grubs and to show us that rain is coming. Actually, I just saw his feathers on his breast and realised that his markings show that he's only about a year old; which show that he's not yet fully-grown and is still a juvenile. He's got another year to go until he's a fully-grown Kookaburra; otherwise, he's looking good.
What lovely photos Lyn. I haven't see Kookaburras around for ages.

Gorgeous shots of this little guy :) You've captured the beautiful detail in his feathers too.

@loey5150 @alia_801 thank you both for your lovely comments. Being so young, he has yet to know of the fear he's supposed to feel about us. But I think he was more interested in a feed than me taking photos of him. :)
