Today is the first of 5 workshops at the Logan Art Gallery. However, I had to work there this morning, then, get myself into gear for this arvo. How exhausting!
We were also down a few in the numbers, so I called my Aunty Helen and asked her if she's like to join in with some of her elephant collection. She was flattered I asked but declined as she didn't wish to have any of her collection travel so far in case it got damaged (I understand about that). I called her tonight and we had a chat about it; and I said it was a community collection project and thought she'd like to get in on it; along with Kate - my cousin, who's into Tigers.
But it took about 4 hours for us all to get everything onto a digital recorder, then we all packed up and went home. I took along 5 books that were the most valuable and interesting to talk about. Everyone thought it was great I was keeping the written word alive through keeping the first editions, out-of-print and signed copies within reach. I handled them all with gloves (and one of them quipped: "And for my next magical trick!" where I answered, "...with nothing up my sleeve!" which got a good laugh... before I started my talk. A few of the people there were close friends of mine; and even they didn't know I collected these types of books; and they were amazed.
What got them in was exactly how I got into collecting this kind of collection in the first place... and how young I was to start collecting them as well. :)
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
@digitalrn So true! I've kept the spirit of collecting alive with my niece. She collects a few things... and one of them is miniature statues of cats; they are made of wood and are painted different colours. They are so cute and tiny and they are all around her room! :D
However, my collections are so big and so different, it's amazing. I not only collect books, I also collect handbags, coin purses, vinyls and dvds... so there's a few great collections that are useful and good-looking as well. :D
