20 Years Ago Today

I was in St Neots visiting my Great-Aunt Ethel (Grandpa's sister) when we found out about Lady Diana's passing.

I was going to Cambridge that day to walk about the city. So, I still stuck to my plans - even though it was a cold, wet day. These are photos of floral tributes I found around the city.

I also got to write in a Condolence Book the Royal Family had sent out to every city (a few boxes of them) for the public to write in. I waited about an hour to write in it. It was worth the wait. The first thing I did when I got to see one of these books was look at it. The book was made from kid leather, had gold leaf on the front and around the page edges and had the most gorgeous pages. It was bound with glue and stitching - both. I then opened it to a blank page and wrote on it in a pen I brought with me - a gold gel ink pen if I remember rightly - and I took notes in line as well, so I didn't make any mistakes (as few as possible). I spent 2 hours getting this done, the waiting in line and writing in the book, and it was well worth the time.
Lovely captures of Lady Diana' s flowers on such a very sad day.

@wendyfrost Believe me, not many people appreciated me doing it. I was elbowed hard by some, and I shoved them out of the way. One old lady elbowed me really hard and believe me, I shoved her on her butt... don't tell me that she didn't see that coming.
