I love this ant's antennae! I think they're super long and sexy looking. XD (Might be time I sought professional help for my ridiculous addiction to macro subjects. 8P )
An ant's antennae are its sensory organ. It feels, tastes and smells with them. With their antennae, ants pick up scents, stroke other ants, tap the ground, touch food. Each antenna is jointed. This ant in my shot has, for instance, more than 10 joints in each antenna!
Many other insects have antennae but an ant's antennae are unique because they are bent in the middle, like our elbow joints. This is one way of telling an ant from, say, a termite because a termite's antennae do not bend like that.
I didn't take this shot in B&W. It was in color and I converted it in post-processing. It was a black ant. I like the way it looks, and how its shadow looks on the leaf too. 8)
Hmmm....sexy antenna? Livia, you may be getting just a little wobbly now! :D haha!
This is really good though, I like the soft shadow, B&W works well too. :)
I`m gonna save some money to by a new camera , but I`m sure I never be able to reach your perfection. Great processing to . Perfect to the pic/theme. Thanks for the interesting explanation with it.
Any way you present them, your bugs are awesome. I love the B&W and would suggest you hold off seeing a shrink, you addiction is so interesting for lots of people 8-)
I love it! Fav! I now "talk in my head" to bugs...I was telling that to a friend today. This morning, I was walking by the lakehouse, where I took the pic of the gray assassin bug a while back...I was checking the brick wall that goes up from basement to first floor. When it got to about eye height as I walked down the hill to my car ,I saw a weevil. I got right up on it to check it out...it started to open shell to fluff out wings and fly. I was thinking "go ahead...I don't care. I don't have my camera." Then, it tried to fly off in some impressive huff, but it just flopped off the ledge and appeared to fall. I laughed out loud and walked on. That is me and my bugs now....
Stunning shot! He does have a catwalk anorexic air about him!LOL I cracked up when I read the title, because I took a bee shot last summer I called "I'm Too Sexy For Your Flower" Great minds, eh?
it's got a hairy butt! i kind of like the way he's poised, like it's asking you if its butt is big. but what's amazing is his shadow on the sheen of the leaf. as always, great shot, livia.
@espyetta *LOL* I think we have it bad. 8D I tend to say goodbye to the jumping spiders before I leave (ever so reluctantly). In my head, I think, "Thank you, and bye bye! See you again, I hope!" I feel quite silly for even thinking it but I can't help myself. Haha. And I really do have to fight the urge to bring one home, especially when it's cute and really tiny. XD
This is a fab shot, the b/w is perfect. The shadow is a delight too. Such a great close up and detail. I love how you give us so much information. It's very interesting to read and gives the ant quite a different take from the pesky things in my garden. We have so many this year.
@farfaraway For all my macro shots, I use my Sony NEX-C3 (mirrorless interchangeable lens camera) with my Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro lens. All shot in natural light. 8)
A great, big, antennae-waving, long and slender and seriously B&W "THANK YOU!" to everyone! Thank you for stopping by! I'm no expert on insects and such. I rely on Google to tell me stuff! XD
Again, thank you so much for your supportive words. I am grateful!
