Just A Glimpse by myautofocuslife

Just A Glimpse

Only a few days left to August, and I'm still trying to mix it up. I do like how my calendar view looks so far. 8)

Here's a little glimpse of my home.

It's the living room. Above the sofa is a 2,000 piece jigsaw puzzle that I had completed and framed some 15 years ago. It says "The Earth For Animals". A beautiful illustration that was originally full of warm earthy hues and tones. Over the years, the colors have faded to a grey-blue palette.

This is not the biggest jigsaw puzzle I've done, which is a 4,000 piece. It has been framed but, because it is so heavy, we are afraid to hang it up. I have visions of it falling off the wall and killing someone. XD

Last time I posted a photo of a room, it was this one: http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-02-29

You are soooo funny! Remind me not to visit you....I wouldn't want to be killed by a falling jigsaw puzzle....LOL!! Seriously, it looks like a lovely puzzle and definitely deserving of being framed.

Love the idea of framing a beautiful puzzle like this. Looks fantastic.
August 26th, 2012
I used to like doing jigsaw. Ad then sadly got into problem solving role play computer games like Myst and preferred those...never did puzzles since then. This cropping is unexpected a nd effective! Love the b and w too!
August 26th, 2012
I LOVE LOVE LOVE jigsaw puzzles, but I'm a bit spoiled because I grew up doing wooden ones and you just don't get the same satisfying "plunk" putting a piece in with a cardboard puzzle. This one looks amazing tho!
August 26th, 2012
Love the composition of this! I never have the patience for jigsaws :)
August 26th, 2012
Thanks!

Love the unexpected crop!
August 26th, 2012
Lovely composition and what an amazing picture. Must have been a fair challenge to build the puzzle and to keep it together for framing! Love the B&W.
August 26th, 2012
Excellent! How long did it take you to complete the puzzle?
August 26th, 2012
Bob
I used to do puzzles...but, no more. Computers have destroyed my patience! Have you considered a bracket they use for large screen tvs? I love your other room posting in Feb.
August 26th, 2012
Love the way you've chosen to frame this photo.
August 26th, 2012
Beautifully composed and processed. You must have amazing patience to have completed the puzzle - something I could never manage myself.
August 26th, 2012
Being killed on the toilett by a falling jigsaw puzzle, that would make some headlines. Never hung any of my puzzles, always goes back in the box for future...I don't knows. Nice comp

August 26th, 2012
Nice hint of the inside of your room Livia, well captured, exposing a little and concealing much.
August 26th, 2012

August 26th, 2012

August 26th, 2012
I just love your composition here. Great processing too!
August 26th, 2012
We love doing jig saw puzzles as well, maybe with the large one you did you could have it made into a coffee table, my partner made a table for my son and a poster was in the table inset, then glass was placed in it as well. looks great.
August 26th, 2012
Wow !!!
August 27th, 2012

Nice perspective!!! Enjoy the glimpse into your home!!!
August 27th, 2012
Really nice composition - love the black and white too!
August 27th, 2012
Great B&W shot. 2000 piece puzzle is a lot but a 4000 piece puzzle is very impressive.

Beautiful shot, love the processing!
August 27th, 2012
What a fabulous shot and I can't say I've heard of Death by Jigsaw...yet... I really like your use of white space in this shot

I've always wanted to do a massive jigsaw puzzle but never got round to it - like a lot of things in my life lol Love the composition and capture.

I used to really be into jigsaws years ago.I've never thought of framing them.

Lovely composition Livia! It's nice to have a peek every once in while in your home :D
August 27th, 2012
love the composition! this looks great!
August 27th, 2012
@carmel Took a couple of weeks, because I wasn't able to work on the puzzle every day. Now, I can finish a 2,000 piece in 5-6 days. But my eyesight isn't what it used to be and I need to take more breaks. 8)
August 27th, 2012
@bobhuegel There's an idea! I'll keep that in mind. Thank you, Bob! 8)
August 27th, 2012
@http365proj That's a great idea! If we turned the 4,000 piece into a table though, I think it'll be too big for our small living room, haha. Your son's table must look wonderful! 8)
August 27th, 2012
wow u must hv a lot of patience.
August 27th, 2012
Very cool composition! The B&W works really well. I love your idea of death by jigsaw! Maybe you can use it as flooring (like a mosaic floor)? :)
August 27th, 2012
A beautiful puzzle - great choice! Someone in my family used to do puzzles and I have fond memories of it. A very lovely shot for me :-).
August 27th, 2012
where do you find the patience for puzzles
August 27th, 2012
@peterdegraaff That is a puzzle in itself!
August 27th, 2012
That must require great patience. My son, JP (Jean-Pierre) used to love making them but he doesn't have the time for anything anymore. Lovely capture and B&W effect.
August 27th, 2012
Great composition and love the monochrome here Livia - I used to love jigsaws - havent done any in ages - love both rooms though - as I didnt see the first one - it was prior to me starting my project!
August 27th, 2012
Lovely shot, my best friend bought me an impossi puzzle. It was a boarderless puzzel of cows in boots, with 5 extra pieces. All the cows looked the same on a red background. it took me 5 months to finish and I have never done a puzzle since lol
August 27th, 2012
Oh wow, that's an achievement! I have a friend who does these but she hasn't framed any of them. Must tell her about yours. And yes, like @cimes1 I too would hate to be killed by a falling jigsaw puzzle!
August 27th, 2012
lovely to see this, loved your framed puzzle, love the message in it!
August 27th, 2012
very cool shot
August 27th, 2012
Its nice to get a glimpse into your home. My parents had 2 such puzzles in their old home that we all put together and my dad framed some 20 years ago. Unfortunately they are long gone now, but they were pretty cool and fun for us all to contribute to!
August 27th, 2012
Lovely shot and glimpse of your home!
August 27th, 2012
Well done, such patience to do such a big jigsaw!
August 27th, 2012
I too really like the puzzle picture! I didn't realize it was a puzzle until I read your commentary. I also like how you included the top of the back of the couch in the photograph! Nicely done! I have decided to follow your work Livia!
August 27th, 2012
A nice minimal composition to go with your lovely minimal decor. I have always loved jigsaw puzzles too. When I was little my mother could borrow them from a toy store in town. We loved those because they were wooden and had all these cool shapes in them as well as the traditional interlocking pieces. When my boys were young I found a catalog company that sold jigsaw puzzles for a relatively reasonable price but after a while, I didn't know what to do with all the puzzles I was accumulating and decided to stop. But I do love working on them!
August 27th, 2012
l like how you have cropped this ...great shot ...we like to put a puzzle out for everyone to have a go at during holidays!!
August 27th, 2012
I love it, just to beautiful and original capture.
August 27th, 2012
Love the composition and the unusual crop - beautiful!
August 27th, 2012
great composition and colors!
August 27th, 2012
Perfectly composed and a little personal for you, another milestone:0)
August 27th, 2012
LOL to falling down and killing someone ¦). This looks like Noah's puzzle for when he was getting the animals into the ship hehe. Lovely contrast and composition, Livia!
August 27th, 2012
So lovely that you give us this glimpse. Lovely simplistic composition. What a super picture picture to do, where do you work at such a large jigsaw. I always have one on the go, but only 1000 pieces, and it's in a fold over board for easy moving. I never do them quickly just spend some time when I can.
August 28th, 2012
I like the minimalist feel to this. It looks great in b&w.
August 28th, 2012
Beautiful in b&w, great lighting and composition as well. Love puzzles but I haven't done them in ages =)
August 28th, 2012
A great, big, one-piece-at-a-time, quickly glimpsed, frank and personal "THANK YOU!" to everyone for taking the time to stop by!

Jigsaw puzzles are fun to do, but I'm much older now and my eyesight isn't so great. Thank you for your comments. They are a great source of encouragement to me. This project is like a jigsaw puzzle too. All 365 pieces need to fit together and you can't hurry along, a puzzle needs time to be completed!

Yes, it is a glimpse, as if one were looking through a half-open door. Great concept!
August 28th, 2012
Great shot Livia. Simple, and great composition.
August 28th, 2012
Very cool, b&w minimalistic shot.
August 28th, 2012
I love the artistic quality of this shot! FAV
August 28th, 2012
Love this composition and the subjects! Nicely done
August 28th, 2012
Clean, simple and elegant - I really like it.
August 28th, 2012
Cool! I like your composition :)
August 29th, 2012
lovely composition, just a hint of the sofa and half the frame. so minimalist. i like that.
August 29th, 2012
Awesome composition, lighting and the b&w works great on this. Love puzzles. There's always a puzzle on the table being put together here. We visited a store last year sometime. They had for sale the Guiness Book of World Records largest puzzle, a Ravensburger 32,000 + piece puzzle, that when finished would be 543.6cm x 191.8cm in size. Since I don't have a factory floor to even attempt it, we did not purchase it. So unfortunate. LOL
August 29th, 2012
Love this shot very much
August 30th, 2012
Great job on completing puzzles that big. I haven't ventured to that size yet - one day maybe : ). Nice shot and it lookds like a lovely puzzle. Would be interested in seeing the other one - preferably without a body below it : ) hehe lol xx
