Some things are really hard to capture the essence of what one sees, but the sunlight shining through and the shadows of the spikes gives it depth and a 3 dimensional feeling

I think I know what you mean about not really capturing what you saw. There's a certain quality of light on the marsh grasses in the fall that I have been trying and failing to capture for decades. I'm beginning to think that's it's only in my eye and not a real thing that the camera can see. That's my story, anyway. :)
