Fabulous. I wish I had learned darning from my mother - but it is a skill I never thought I would need ... so many things I wish I had learned from my mother before it was too late. And what a lovely photo it makes with all the tools of the trade arranged like this
@seacreature I am so sad that my mother’s sewing box went in the garage sale after she died - including her darning mushroom and thimble which I so wish I’d kept 😢
I also wish I’d made shortbread with her…
As for the darning, it turns out it’s quite easy, just like weaving.
These days “visible mending” is all the rage here and people are making colourful patches of darning which looks really lovely.
