@olivetreeann - actually, it's 'fossil sand ripples' from wave action on an ancient beach. So, it is not surprising it looks like waves.
How are you Ann? Everything good?
I like this. What the subject is is totally irrelevant to my enjoyment of the image - I wondered very briefly about what it could be then concentrated on the lines, texture and composition - so a very cool abstract. Loving the black and white, and that little nipply (is that a word?) bit as the point of focus.
My only reservation concerns the part in shadow at the bottom left-to-centre of the frame. I feel there's a bit too much detail lost and that renders it rather distracting. I'm drawn to attempting to discern more info. in that area.
But overall the light brings out form and texture beautifully and the b&w creates fab ambiguity.
Yes, you spotted the weakness in this shot. There is too much loss of detail in that bottom left area. However, I could not crop it any tighter without losing the aesthetics of the lines further up. It just looked too mean. I might go back and do another shot sometime as I do really like the effect. It is a pretty unique texture. And you are right about the title. It should really stand up on its own without the title.
@netkonnexion I'm doing well Damon and always glad to see you pop in every now and then. We've managed well under the lockdown and are happy to see some businesses opening up again. I think there will be many smaller businesses though that may have gone under. Some greedy larger businesses like Lowe's gobbled up funding that was supposed to go to the mom and pop type stores but thankfully it did not effect my self-employed husband. Our photo club has adjusted well to meeting on line with only the opportunities to exhibit slowing to a halt. I hope you are well and that your photographic endeavors have remained constant in these crazy times! Stay well!
@olivetreeann - Great to hear you are well. Yes, business has been tough during lockdown. I have just managed to keep my head above water though. Our club too has been doing online meetings. I am also still judging photo-competitions online and lecturing about photography online too. So, still active in that realm. Take care. Be well!
