For the something old theme. Eldest is reading this book, that once upon a time his daddy read and once upon a time before that his great uncle read. The book was printed in 1965 so 51 years later its's still bringing laughter and enjoyment. No kindles in this house just good old fashioned well loved books!!
a picture and story that cheered me up. kindle's are for starting fires and have no smell of ink, you can' keep a precious note between it's pages, nor press and dry a leaf within it which will be there 100 years later. Your book is ever ready, needs no charging ,as Groucho Marx said "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read"....
YES. i agree. the smell of a good book...hard to beat! old ones, new ones, it doesn't matter to me, tho very cool that yours is 51 years, there is something about it that is magical!
Lovely shot and so good to see kids reading for pleasure. I'm an avid reader - both books and kindles. I get all the reasons for reading books, but I like to read my kindle in bed when I can't sleep and it's backlit.
Such a wonderful story Ruth and yes, I agree old books are such a treasure, the smell and the feel of the pages. It's such an important thing for kids to be able to turn pages in books, especially when they are young. @golftragic I'm like Marnie, I read both, kindle for traveling and books for the feel of them.
What a wonderful thing to hand down. There is nothing better than finding a quiet space and loosing yourself in a book, but like others I also have a kindle. I most often have two books on the go at a time, a proper book for home, and then something on my kindle to read when i am on public transport. But I think young children should only read real books, there is something so special about turning a real page, and feeling the weight of a book in your hand. And also I love this shot!
