Plovers by nickspicsnz

Plovers

The alarm call these spur-winged plovers make has to be the most annoying of any bird - it's a very loud rattling screechy sound - and they made it a lot when I walked past with the dogs even though we were quite a distance away (this is cropped quite a bit and put through Topaz Denoise to try and get something resembling a half-decent shot!). Such a shame about their noise because they're quite attractive birds.
heard one this morning when i was doing my garden bird survey https://gardenbirdsurvey.nz/

@kali66 I think I’ll try this tomorrow although at this time of year I only seem to have sparrows, mynahs, blackbirds and one fantail.

Wonderful focus and dof, more new to me birds.

They wander around the ground being quite a target but their screeching may frighten even a cat away!

They have really neat markings. I love the focus.

ha ha, at least there is no doubt who is calling you :)
@kali66 How cool to have a garden bird survey. Not sure we do that here.

They are a very protective bird too. For reasons I don’t understand they nest on the ground, out in the open. They make that terrible noise to draw threats away. My daughter picked up one of their eggs years ago and I think we’re still blacklisted.
