On our way to the beach the other day we took a bit of detour to see Cornwallis Wharf. According to Google it was originally built in 1926 then extended to 193m in 1927. When it became unsafe it was scheduled for demolition in 1989 but, following a public meeting on the beach in 1994, the Save Cornwalllis Old Wharf group was formed. They raised funds and the wharf was rebuilt and opened in July 1999. To help raise funds, individual planks were sponsored and there are small plaques on each sponsored plank featuring personal messages. The wharf is still 193m long and is popular with fishermen. They were all crowded at the very end of the wharf and several caught fish while we were there.
