Crochet as street awnings

Went to a market in a little town called Alora which was supposed to be good - it was awful, but there was an old Arab castle. We did find this street which looked like it had been decorated with Hula Hoops which had been fitted with crochet patterns, it was quite striking.

It does look fantastic, at first glance I thought it might have been umbrellas. These are most unusual.
