The Tay Railway Bridge by nodrognai

The Tay Railway Bridge

Built between 1882-7, the Tay Railway Bridge was constructed by engineers W H and Crawford Barlow for the North British Railway. Leading to the South from Dundee. It is the longest bridge in Britain at 2.75 miles and consists of a series of wrought-iron trusses on riveted plate piers with brick foundations. The structure incorporates some of the trusses of the first bridge (completed 1878 and partly blown down in a violent storm while a train was crossing with a loss of 70 lives on 28 December 1879),and the stumps of the piers of the old bridge can be seen downstream.
Interesting history and love the line of the bridge. Great placement in photo.

Great capture of the old railway bridge. I was on a RN Frigate, HMS Palliser for the opening of the road bridge in 1966. FAV Ian.
