ok - it wasn't midnight... more like 9:30pm (exif is wrong - can't seem to get the time set properly in the camera!), but "midnight" sounded better ;p
I am being pushed twice this week... this is for my second challenge by Patty (aka Socalgal) who asked: "So how are you with low-key captures?...feel up to that as my Get-Pushed challenge to you this week?"
My success rate with low key sucketh big time! My kid has been extremely patient with me... tonight was the third night in the row i convinced him to pose for me in front of the fridge and i'm still not entirely happy with the composition... but i doubt tomorrow will be any better... and i've been under the weather today and didn't manage to get out to shoot much else... sooooooo... here it is!
as for yesterday's shot... what can i say but a humongous THANK YOU for such an overwhelmingly lovely response... i am so blown away!
I think this is great!! I'm trying not to Fav every single photo you upload, lest you think I'm too loose with my favs, l but you make it hard on me. :)
Dutch old masters oil painting sprang to mind as soon as I saw this. It needs an appropriate name like "Boy looking in larder". Interesting how you got such a great low key shot in the morning. Another fav for me @rockinrobyn@amandalomonaco I worry about my fav looseness too but if I have gut instinct on fav's and excuse myself with the fact that I've been here a long time and there's amazing talent on this site ;o) xx
Well done on your push (I have tried, and failed low key) This is excellent, your boy deserves congratulations for his patience as well.
I did my push today too.
I have Fav looseness as well at the moment, no apologies.
This is ace! The light on his face is perfect. I have the feeling that he is standing in a doorway, watching someone he loves leaving the house and is sad at the inevitability of it.
Or maybe he's just at the fridge wondering where mum hid the trifle! :)
And loose or not it is very much a fav!
I don't know Northy...this low-key shot is pretty wonderful! I think you have a wonderful grasp of them :-) Great lighting, and a sweet little face to work with, to boot! Love it!!!
And my hat is off to you for all the extra effort you put out there for us this week. You not only had TWO challenge partners this week, but also had to set up the Final 5 voting for our week 6 challenge, AND have taken the reins of the Get-Pushed Challenge from Jase... thank you for all your time and energy on all of these! :-) You ROCK girl!
Fridge! as a source of light, Thank you! Have got loads of ideas about these low keys but never knew what to use (our ceilings are covered in lights thanks to the previous owners so no go there!) This works so well, ditto re the faves :)
What a great light for low key... maybe I'll have to try this for my challenge ;) I must admit I haven't successfully taken a low key shot... so I'll have to read up a bit more before trying it. But I am looking forward to the challenge especially as it's something I'd like to be able to do.
@northy This is awesome low key. Love it!!
I did my push today too.

@fueast no ghosts - but i often wonder if Zul is lurking there ;p
@psychographer this was taken at night, not in the morning... :)
