Remnants

Making something out of nothing ;D

Went for a very brief walk at lunch in search of inspiration... sadly, this was the most interesting thing i could find... ;p

Thanks all for the comments on the shot i posted for Monday... I have to say, the sky was really quite wildly coloured all that Sunday morning... at times, it was like molten lava - srsly!

PSA: I am leaving early Friday morning for out-of-town (kids have a hockey tournament) so get pushed pairings for next week will be posted on Sunday instead of Saturday for this go around...
Renovators delight. lol

Lots of wonderful texture and contrast here, but I bet the squirrel would have made pp. :)

@tigerdreamer bwahaa haaaaaa! too funny! my guess is likely not... but even if it was a shoe-in, i'd prolly still have chosen the tear-down ;p
January 31st, 2013
I love it! The textures and lines are awesome...but I am a real sucker for dereliction shots ;)
January 31st, 2013

This shot is awesome! in a melancholy sort of way.
January 31st, 2013
Fabulous ruin and decay.
January 31st, 2013
Great b&w
January 31st, 2013
This is wonderful and very inspiring. I never even considering converting my demo shots from last week to B&W. I think I might go back and see what effect that has on them.
January 31st, 2013
Great shot. So much destruction, black and white is fabulous.
January 31st, 2013
What a fabulous find though! I would have shot this to death too:) If only you could get a tiny bit higher of an angle on it...
January 31st, 2013
@westcoastwallis tx Paula... actually, this is a crop of a somewhat larger image... the full shot felt chaotic somehow - even in black and white... no place for the eye (well, my eye) to land... which bit were you curious about?
January 31st, 2013
You've redefined my understanding of "remnants" since I think of that as scraps from my quilting! :) Your photo of "remnants" does beg the question of what can be found to be of re-use, and I'm sure those who hang out at house renovation sales would like to be there with their tools!

Off subject, but curious -- how do you get tags to be more than one word? I tried separating by commas, but each word still ends up as a separate tag.
January 31st, 2013
@northy all of it! I just love urban decay up close and personal:) (Hope I didn't sound like I was criticizing there - I love the shot!)
January 31st, 2013
@northy oh I just re-read what I wrote and it does sound critical - I totally didn't mean to!! I just meant to bad you can't really get in there and go to town with your camera:)
January 31st, 2013
@jyokota tx Junko... you need to enclose a phrase in the double quotations to get them to hang together as a tag and be sure NOT to use any apostrophes... some punctuation seems to work, altthough would avoid commas...

so if you want your tag to be: where's the kaboom? there's supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!

you would type: "wheres the kaboom? theres supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!"
January 31st, 2013
@westcoastwallis no worries... i was looking at the full shot again and thinking that if i'm desperate tomorrow, i'll just crop out another chunk to post ;p
January 31st, 2013
@westcoastwallis well, i don't mind helpful criticism in the least - so don't ever hold back!

This is quintessential Northy. . .I love it! +F

It's an interesting photo. A sliced through building always has cool insights into what used to be.
January 31st, 2013
Great shot of urban decay. I love things like this, fascinating stuff!
January 31st, 2013
LOVE this!! Love the black and white and high contrast - stunning capture of urban decay. A great find for a brief walk :-)
January 31st, 2013
Very interesting shot
January 31st, 2013
Making something out of nothing? That we should do more - would help to save our environment. Great capture and very nice in B&W.
January 31st, 2013
Amazing shot, love the heavy contrasts!
January 31st, 2013
Ten years ago i wandered through the streets of Havanna. A lot of buildings looked exactly like your shot of today. Could even be used for a CD-cover. I like it a lot!
January 31st, 2013
This has a very sad feel to it...junk that people have forgotten about. Great processing.
January 31st, 2013
great processing
January 31st, 2013
Where did you find this poor soul? Another condo going up downtown? Love renos/construction- we did 10 years of it at my last house and starting up again - hopefully building the cottage this year.
January 31st, 2013
Great shot Northy, love it
January 31st, 2013
beautiful shot! love how the b&w makes it more impressive!
January 31st, 2013
That is some serious demolition! You captured some amazing textures and I love how the B&W adds to the grittiness of it! Also the squirrel pics sounds interesting... maybe add it to one of your other albums? :) hehe
Have a super time at the hockey tourney :)
January 31st, 2013

January 31st, 2013
It was you now, wasn't it :P
January 31st, 2013
@jase_h definitely not... It was almost certainly somebody else... But mostly I haven't a clue what you are referring to!
January 31st, 2013
Destroying the building, you couldn't get it straight and threw a tantrum :P
January 31st, 2013
@jase_h Yep - let that be a lesson... Piss me off at yer own peril ;p
January 31st, 2013
