This was harder than i thought it was going to be! I think I will need to take another run at this sort of shot again - the bit I wanted crisp and clear and bright still looks muddly to me... Not sure what optimal shutter speed is - I think this was too slow for me to be trying to do handheld... but the ones where my shutterspeed was faster don't show much motion blur... and i liked this one for the kids play-fighting in the bottom left :)
Thank you for coming by to view and comment... i've been really struggling to keep up with looking at everyone else's photos lately - hoping again to get some time over the weekend to catch up...
I like this a lot, with its quite focal point amid the chaos. I too am struggling to keep up with comments, but am keeping up with taking and posting photos, so am still in the fight.
@swguevin tx Sheila... i also am usually up to date with posting photos... that's the "problem" you see... i end up spending too much time shooting and editing ;p
I really like the motion blur and how it captures the different people's body language and purpose in a public space. This would make a really interesting series.
If it's too crisp and clear, wouldn't it be like a still shot? I think this strikes a really sweet balance between motion blur and crisp ... fav for me
Cool motion blur, not sure about the tint though, crisp white and stark black would have been more to my liking. Not Cohen in my head again, just managed to kick him out a couple of months ago after he permanently occupied this specific corner of my head for about three years...
I love that it is b&w ... & love the focus & motion of the surrounding figures. Great shot. Know how your feeling ... I'm also having trouble keeping up with commenting.
@frida tx for that feedback Frida... I was undecided on the tint too... but found it a bit flat in black and white... that split down usually gives the image some depth and i guess is a lazy way out since i can't figure out how to get that depth with just black and white!
sorry about the Cohen thing... i have this idea for a photo for the poetry club... did some trial runs yesterday (needs certain location and certain light) but couldn't quite nail it and now it's going to be bugging me until i get another chance
Yep he definitely looks bored. I like the motion - and the different degrees of motion. I also am a fan of the tint - but you probably knew I would be. ;)
Are you purely trying to handhold or is their something you can rest on?
When I played with this last year, I managed to get up to about 1/2s to work but I was pushing the camera against a railing.
@humphreyhippo tx! i have something to lean on and steady myself, but no where to rest the camera... i could try using live view or whatever its called, and holding it steady on the railing (i'm on a walkway in the mall, a level up from the action), but i actually think that would be harder to keep steady than having it up to my eye...
This is hard to get and takes a few attempts.
1/100th to around 1/20th can work but it all depends on the scene. I tend to find a few goes at it then gets a desired result.
But I still like this!
I always like these blur ones...it never seems to work out well for me, but then again I am not usually in an ideal spot to do these kinds of shots. I always admire your motion blur pics.
This is a shot I'd love to try before the year's out. I think you did really well. Love the sense of motion and the focus on the lone guy. I think it came out great!
nice one - as you know I love taking this kind of shot - I tend to find much more than 1 second leaves stray feet or ghostly smudges! I like your exposure here - perfect!
for trying to change the system from within.... now it's in my head too but it could be a lot worse. I think this works - there's a lot going on and then you're pulled up to the boy sitting by himself. Any slower and I think you'd lose detail in him - sixth is amazing for hand held Fav!
