Northy, I think it's great. You're a perfectionist, never satisfied...why do you think this doesn't work? Great diptych, manichean view (positive/negative) it works well for me.

Very striking! Works for me. Stop being so hard on yourself.

I really like it, would've liked to see it with the border white on the top half but maybe that's just me!
April 7th, 2013
@odinndagur tx Odinn... not sure i can have multiple colours in the border using picassa... but then, i suppose i could have added frames in nik silver efex before creating the collage :)

April 7th, 2013
Well done - I think this is a true diptych which in itself is a most peculiar word!

@amyspada @dougi555 ok - i spent a good hour trying to do that last night and could not make it work... at first i thought it was because i was trying to be funky and break it into 2/3 and 1/3 and picassa wasn't going for it, but even with splitting in half, the sides wouldn't line up no matter what... then i had the brilliant idea of using layers and masking in PSE, only i can't draw a straight line using a mouse... i expect a gradient mask might work as well... which i might try tonight if i am so inclined... but i have to think that there is a fairly easy way to do this and i'm just missing something... any suggestions?

The two shots are the same size I imagine, right? They are the same shot aren't they? Take them both into PSE. Select all of one of them. Copy. Now create a new file with a black background. It will result in the exact same size as the copied photo. Name it what you want. Now go back to one photo and crop it in half or at 1/3 or where ever but note (using the rulers) where you have cropped it so that on the other phot you can crop the other half or 2/3's. now copy and paste one on the black background (it should automatically past to a new layer). Now copy and paste the other cropped photo. There will be no space between the two. Select one photo layer and having selected the proper tool, move the layer by punching the right or left arrow key to move it so as to form the black space between the 2 photos. You can move one a couple times and move the other a couple of times. Move the right one to the right and left one to the left. There may be an easier way but that's how I did mine today. Flatten when you get it aligned the way you like it. Make sense?
April 7th, 2013
really creative - love what you've done here @amyspada great tutorial!
April 7th, 2013
@sparkle I figure it's only great if it makes sense to @northy :) I am no PS whiz... that's for sure!
April 7th, 2013
@amyspada tx - yes - makes sense... and it worked... uploading now... not sure about using the arrow keys to move things around as i didn't actually try it... i never knew that functionality existed and i'm glad i do now as it should help with collages in PSE :)

April 7th, 2013
@amyspada well I got something out of it too so that makes it a winner instruction!!
April 7th, 2013
@northy Clicking the arrow once moves in the said direction one pixel or point or whatever the measurement is. Holding shift and clicking the arrow moves it ten. It's a cool shortcut. Glad it worked for you :)
April 7th, 2013
Cool. Very Oriental looking xx
April 7th, 2013
@amyspada thank you thank you thank you! i've been fighting with lining things up in PSE for months now... no need anymore! :D
April 7th, 2013
@northy The arrow key moving only works if you have the default arrow tool selected, that could be why.
April 8th, 2013
I think it is great! and in my favorite "colors!" nice!
April 8th, 2013
Cool composition and I love the shadows.
