a couple days ago @summerfield pointed out to me that our local transit commission is running a photo competition... and as i take a LOT of photos on the subway, i figured i ought to give it a go... the difficulty is that they want photos to print on their pamphlets and i expect they are going to want something in colour... they also have all sorts of rules including the fact that there can be no recognizable people... i took a bunch of photos today, but this is my favourite one... here it is processed in black and white...
wouldn't mind getting your feedback on which you prefer and why...
and of course all other critique most welcome as well... i'm allowed to submit up to 5 photos and the deadline is July 3, so i'm afraid i may bore you to tears over the next week and a half...
thank you so much for the lovely comments and favs on my train shot from yesterday...
this is so northy. but the coloured version is kind of a novelty (yo! that rhymes, doesn't it?) from you. why not submit both along with three more. no pressure, kiddo!
@summerfield tx Vikki! like i said on the other one, i'm going to wait to see what i come up with over the next week or so before deciding which ones to submit...
Wicked lines, love them. I prefer this one, as my eye just glides through it. The colour processing is wonderful and I tend to stop at the person on the left and find it hard to move on. Both shots are awesome. I hope you win the whole flippin' thing.
@maggiemae haven't a clue... altho' i do have some ideas for a crowd scene at one of the subway stations :) this one was shot near the end of the line, after most of the people who got off (not too many at this point) had already left the platform
I like the b and w! I am forever trying to put pics in b and w and my husband will be saying ...no. It's better in color. And most nature and other shots I take do...but I love b and w. the b and w and the light on the rails, the focused person....really draw the eye.
This somehow looks sharper to me. Both great images, but I do think that the lines are more defined here. MAy be the colour adds a bit of a distraction.
I love this! I like both the colour and BW. Can't decide on a fav between them. I would have to sit with them side by side for a bit I think. Fav for this shot anyway... cos I just love it! Good luck with it all too... exciting :)
@jase_again it has to be related to transit... and there are the typical rules about no recognizable people, etc... :) tx for pointing to those ones... there's nothing in the rules about using older shots, so i'm definitely going to comb thru my older ones... but also it's given me the nudge to take some more... i expect the kind of shot they will want will not be the kind of shot i generally take... i have no real interest in trying to take shots that i think they are looking for, but have given some thought to experimenting a bit with colour just to see what i can come up with... it's a judged competition, btw... not voting...
Powerful and potent in b&w - I love the repetition of line - the tracks, the overhead lighting, the length of the window, and the edge of the platform, strengthened by the verticals of the window's frames and the reflected light in the flooring. That said, the color version has a lightness and 'prettiness' to it - but I prefer the b&w
(I definitely prefer the b&w because of the aforementioned illusion, though the photo color is rather dreamy...)
