tried it again - this time with a 100 watt bulb... and ended up with these bizarre smoke trails which i kinda liked... again, this works quite nicely bigger on black if you are so inclined...
this is for my get pushed challenge set by Michelle (@momsta) which was to shoot a burning lightbulb... here is the video link to how it's done...
processed in LR, converted to black and white in nik silver fx and then split tones added to the highlights in LR to get the blueish tinge...
i'm not sure the focus is as spot on as i would like... the camera and i had a bit of an argument about it and in the end, i think it went a bit rogue on me... and this after i responded to someone's comment on one of the threads saying that i hadn't had much in the way of focus issues... sigh...
on another note - i would like to say a huge thanks for getting my "the future is now" photo into the top twenty this week... it was a nice ending to the week :)
@maggiemae if you watch the tutorial it might give you a better sense... basically once you take the glass off the lightbulb and turn it on, it poofs into fire and burns out in a second or two... i have my camera on continuous shots (it will take a whole bunch of frames in a second) and voila... i have been getting two or three half decent shots with every lightbulb...
@pennyp tx Penny... interestingly, the green line did show up in some of the shots (can't remember if it was in this one) - but it was far enough to the right that it could be cropped out
@humphreyhippo yeah... i'm such a loser - i had to ask WHAT the difference between the various types of bulbs was, and which ones would work... the tutorial doesn't clarify this! and then the guy at the store was trying to explain to me that it didn't matter which bulb i picked and then i had to explain to him what i wanted it for.. and then he kinda looked at me funny ;p
on my bucket list to do...love your commentary above re what type of bulb to use! love the funny looks we get from the people we need to buy stuff off!
Ok that's second shot today that I thought "why am I not seeing this on my feed?" Then I look tonight and I'm not following you?? Huh, magic monkeys/grumpy gremlins are messing around again. Sorted out, so on to your shot - wowzer! So cool love the smoke trails. Fav. Just seen that they posted light bulbs as the next mundane challenge so I expect some attempts of this will be popping up.

@northy...your sons must love your experiments! Cool shot.
PS: Have no idea why I'm not following you yet, I've always thought I was. Anyway, fixed that now. :-)
