then i found this app that let me do patterns for backgrounds, and i thought this might work for the glass refraction thing which has eluded me... but this doesn't look at all like what i expected... help?
i tried moving the glass different distances from the background... i tried focussing on the background and focussing on the glass.... and i tried different apertures...
this is one where i had the glass quite close to the backdrop and i focussed on the glass (and ended up with a major clean-up job in photoshop trying to get rid of all the bubbles... duh)...
anyhoo... if anyone has any idea where i went wrong, please let me know...
I love everything about this! Especially all the patterns in the stem.
What were you hoping for? I think one issue is that this pattern does not have a top or a bottom, so you really can't tell if it refracted and flipped upside down, right?
@archaeofrog this is true... but generally these images don't have a right way up, i think? i guess i was surprised at how difficult the focussing aspect was - maybe i should have gone for a narrower aperture? and i was also expecting the result to be either wonkier or neater somehow?
When I use my Crystal ball it is nearly impossible to keep the background in focus. And the refraction is always upside down.Don't know how you kept the back in focus...but you did! I love this effect! A pattern with no up or down .Cool!.I downloaded this app too. Previously I only had Lightbox for iPad.this looks like fun!
Instant fav! The deep aperture really is effective here -- love the pattern and the way you positioned the glass for symmetry. A great shot!
BTW, I'm glad to re-join get-pushed for next week if there's a partner for me.
I think this is perfect from technical point of view ... You just need to experiment with the backgrounds, glasses and positioning of the glass. Maybe you should raise the glass a bit higher ? There's a lot of refracting black from the bottom of the background in the glass--> lifting the glass higher would get more of the pattern into the glass ?
Realizing it wasn't your goal, it's still a really cool image. It's more than just a glass in front of something. It looks as if it has gone through a wormhole. And that's always fun.
This is fab - was told by another 365er about your challenge and gave it a shot today - quite liked the result but now I have seen yours I feel I may need more practice!! Ace. Fav and follow.
