@sunshine365 challenged me to shoot something that represented the word "hot" for get pushed this week... i've been trying all week to figure out how to do this with a minimum of colour... not sure i really succeeded here... and i have to confess i did a fair bit of etsooi-ing... oh well...
@jyokota tx Junko... in my perfect world, there would have been steam rising from the bucket ;p i could have done it in photoshop if i'd used a version of this shot with a darker background... but in the end, i decided i didn't really feel like playing today :)
This works for me - I think as well as being a whiz at processing, it's also important to know when to stop. One of my favourite expressions is "Close enough for Government work" - this surely is!
@northy -- steam rising against a dark background -- ooooohhhhh . . . .
you should come join @taffy and me . . . we are sitting side by side on a couch, doing "parallel play" (as they call it in the early childhood world when two children sit side by side doing their own thing). We're each playing with our own photos but showing each other for critique and feedback.
While I'm a HUGE fan of low-key and steamy hot, I think the high-key treatment actually accentuates the sense of "hot" in this shot. I like it much more than most government work (and I worked for them for a time!) :)
@vignouse@voiceprintz ok - I'm a little afraid to ask... What does that expression mean? I googled and got a number of conflicting definitions, including one that stated this is a term commonly used in Ontario... Which is where I live and I've never heard it...
@northy@voiceprintz For me, in this context, it means fit for purpose, but no more. Sometimes we spend an inordinate amount of time chasing diminishing returns, so it's good to recognise when you've done enough and move on to something else.
@northy@vignouse I agree with Richard with a caveat. When I worked for the (US) government - tangentially, fortunately, I stopped when I knew it had met the requirements for a given assignment and no one would bother pushing me to a higher standard (even though I knew I was capable). An alternate here would be "close enough for what good I'm going to get out of it."
Deep discussion, but I like the creativity of this shot for your challenge. Let the steam go... no biggie. The main point is made, and very creatively.. Lord... today I resorted to posting a holiday pig, for heaven's sake. Some days, you just do what you can do.
@vignouse@voiceprintz this discussion makes me nervous... As a perfectionist, I had to learn long ago that at some point ya gotta let go and push the deliverable out the door... I continue to have a hard time with this...
Love Tabasco too :)
