tapestry: deconstructed landscape by northy

tapestry: deconstructed landscape

this is a bit of an experiment... actually... i lie... it was a humongous experiment... because:
(a) i was shooting all sorts of things i would never normally ever bother to look at twice
(b) i had to teach myself how to create a collage template in photoshop (yeeeeeesh - it doesn't get much more masochistic than that)
(c) it's a collage... i very rarely do collages...
(d) it was a ridiculously insanely stupid amount of work...

this is a deconstructed landscape...
http://www.wexphotographic.com/blog/deconstruction-a-simple-trick-for-different-landscapes

this is a concept that @dibzgreasley spoke about on one of @taffy 's images a week or so ago... at first i thought "not bloody likely" and then i decided i should try it before saying that... so i did...

not sure i've gotten it to work properly... there are a gazillion things i would do differently next time... assuming there ever is a next time... ;p
@dibzgreasley @taffy - i decided to give this a go... not sure it really works in bw, at least not how i've done it... must think how i might approach it next time... if there ever is a next time...

I didn't even know photoshop did collages. Do I want to know that?
August 2nd, 2015
The result is beautiful!

@melston it does when you "make" it do collages... i had to create my own template... it was beastly... but i learned a lot!

Great college!

Viewing this on my iPad... need to see it on the 27" monitor to make any constructive comments but at a first glance, I would say this is awesome.
August 3rd, 2015
i want to see this realllllly large.
August 3rd, 2015
@kali66 yeah... this was the first time in ages when i found using my small laptop limiting ;p
August 3rd, 2015
cool...fav

Thank goodness I am a digital scrapper because I have collage templates. Hope I get a chance to look at this at work tomorrow on a bigger screen then my laptop. But what I can see reminds me of some of my photo trips. I just get carried away shooting everything. Because I don't have your talent and most of it ends up in the dump.

Fav...stunning!
August 3rd, 2015
Fascinating - I hope you feel it was worth all of that time, because you have created a visual gem. Fav.
August 3rd, 2015
Oh my word, I'm going to sound cliched here but this is "awesome". It simply glows and I cannot believe that you created this collage in PS! I am really impressed that you had a go at this and as always you have put your own trademark stamp on it.

As others have said, a visual feast! fav of course!

It looks really great. It would be easily put together on my go-to site, ribbet.com. To get that many rows and columns you'd need a premium subscription, but I consider it the best investment of $50/year I've made. The previous year they were giving that away to generate interest and I made full use of the year and gladly coughed up the money when they ended the free period. Anyway, sorry. I sound like an advertisement.

So, turning to your get pushed challenge... I would have liked to come up with something tailored exactly to demand what you haven't done much of. But instead I'm falling back on something I've given a couple other people. I opened a little dictionary that once belonged to Frank's grandmother to a random page, stuck my finger in and these are a few words surrounding said fingertip:

Invent
Inventory
Inverse
Invest
Investigate

Choose one (or more) for your theme/subject/inspiration. Extra points if you can use more than one. In your case, extra, extra points if the image is in color-- but I'm not holding my breath. :-)

Well I am totally impressed by this and going off to read about it. I love this in black and white!
August 3rd, 2015
Fabulous idea. I've downloaded all the web sites to read about this - and there's a free piece of software for you to create the grids too!
August 3rd, 2015
This is so interesting. I must try one day, however without ps may become a problem.
August 3rd, 2015
I really love this!! It really gets you to look at the different images that otherwise you may not notice in one large picture. I would just love to have this on a wall...big fav!

So many of those photos are really lovely, individually, especially some of the back lit ones. Kudos to you for putting the time and effort into making this complex piece of art. Making a collage in PS... sounds daunting! Wonderful result.
August 5th, 2015
Love the effect. Very interesting.
August 5th, 2015
Just wanted to tell you I was really inspired by this. I have read the link you provided and it is something I would like to try. I am not a wonderful photographer and only use a p&s but I want to give it a go. Thanks for the inspiration!
August 5th, 2015
Well worth the effort. I'm not sure I'd have the patience.
August 5th, 2015
@Cherrill you're welcome! and you should probably thank @dibzgreasley who flagged the concept to begin with :)

@humphreyhippo i wouldn't normally have the patience either... but it was a long weekend and i was determined NOT to be defeated by PS ;p
August 6th, 2015
