golden hour by northy

golden hour

this is one of those shots that i think would work really well in colour if i could handle the complexity of colour tones involved... this is facing east... the sun was getting ready to set behind me and the city was just glowing in reflected light...

there is a couple sitting on the rocks looking towards the city... i wish they were a bit more contrasty but too much tweaking in LR was making a muddle of it... you can see them a bit better on the black :)

this was shot with a square crop in mind for the technique challenge:

Works great in the square format! Loved your comment..." i think would work really well in colour if i could handle the complexity of colour tones involved..", I fully comprehend that statement! But still love it in b&w!

March 1st, 2016
Love this especially the way the light it breaking those all those clouds to spotlight the city!
March 1st, 2016
the sky in particular is awesome, i probably would have cropped the bright bit at the top off
March 1st, 2016
@kali66 interesting you say that Kali... I went back and forth on that top bright bit, but left it in... I know it will sound odd for me to say this, but I found that light rather uplifting... Whereas taking it out gave a more oppressive feel to the image... At least in my mind... Hmmmmm....
March 1st, 2016
Love this - it's so dramatic!

Gorgeous processing, I love the contrast.

Lovely

I often have this problem with sunset skies, I think with it cropped off the city pops more, being then the brightest part of the image... there is probably something in what you say about the psychological aspects to it too though:)
March 1st, 2016
ah but it has to be square, so you would have compromised the space available in the side elements
March 1st, 2016
The composition works great in the square format!Wonderful tonal range and overall processing!

March 1st, 2016
wow. that looks amazing. fav
March 1st, 2016
@kali66 actually, I would've just used a graduated filter in LR and darkened it - so no compromise on the crop :)
March 1st, 2016
Oh wow... yes, the light is perfect! Would the buildings be all golden in colour?
March 1st, 2016
it makes a huge difference viewing it on black...that brightness is better contained
March 1st, 2016
Wow wow wow.
March 1st, 2016
When the sun reaches the top of the buildings but doesn't make it down.
March 1st, 2016
This is simply superb - the delicate variations in the dark tones have been deftly done. It's interesting what @kali66 says: viewing on black, the brightness at the top becomes the source of the light on the buildings and the image is drawn tightly together. Did I say Fav?

Totally awesome on black Northy, I love how the city is lite up, the rocky curving shoreline and the dramatic sky!!
I guess I love it all, big Fav!

Such a beautiful glow you caught here! Every inch of the image is alive with it! The couple looking toward the city makes the image even more special as does viewing it on black. This is just perfect for the square challenge!

Thank you so much for commenting on my Snow Dinner image. So very kind of you! :-)
