NO - those are NOT butterflies... sheesh.... i wanted to see if i could do this... and i think this almost works... and at any rate, now i know how to do this... so i don't have to try anymore :)
Thank you all for your kind encouragement... still not feeling the phojo, but hopefully inspiration will hit soon!
So awesome. Very creative. I'm so backed up on catching up with everyone, I have to apologize. Trying to figure out how you did this. Did you carve the images into the pumpkin, and have them projected by a candle inside said pumpkin or something totally different. Just got done being sick, and I'm naturally diseased with stupidity if I'm way off on this. Sorry. :)
@losthorizon yep - WAAAAY off ;p it's shaped bokeh and prolly some googling will get you better info than i could provide - and there is a recent discussion thread on this, altho' i didn't look thru it closely enough to see whether there were instructions...
the short story is that you put something over your camera lens in a shape and then if you take a close up shot with a low f stop (like f/1.8) with lights far enough in the background, your bokeh will take on the shape of what's over the lens... i used a jack'o-lantern punch stamp to get this shape...
@northy Wow...yeah...way off. Gonna have to try that. Thanks. But I wonder if the pumpkin projector would work too? Only problem I'd see would be keeping the candle lit with the lid on. Might have to try that too when I get home. Thanks again. :)
@northy Very true. I'm dumb like that though. Always take the more complicated way, just for a photo. Usually ends up a disaster, me frustrated, and my wife laughing at me, not with me. Flashlight might work though. Great idea. Thanks yet again.
Nice work!!! I think they look like good, creepy pumpkin faces. I love your creativity and ambition. My phojo is missing, and I don't even have the energy to go find it!
This is great Northy. I had been playing with shapes all weekend, and CANNOT get this effect. I got bokeh, but just plain round. I have a friend who does scrapbooking, so will take some card, get some shapes punched and try, try again. I think my cutouts were too big. *sigh......back to the drawing board.
So creative! I've wanted to try bokeh shapes but haven't gotten around to it! Nice job! I love that you chose to use a jackolantern face!! I haven't been feelin' the phojo lately (love that term!). I would never know you weren't feelin it though! Your shots rock. :)
