@kali66 the problem with relying on that method, it assumes you will get out at some point, and that's not necessarily true for me at the moment and wasn't when I was working fairly flat out.
I've given some thought to why i answered the way i did, and here's the thing. I find I get very little enjoyment out of treating photography as a scavenger hunt. I generally want to capture something I want to look at in terms of composition and light, and not just "see - i found one". And while i can generally figure out a way to use the subject that is in front of me when it comes to architecture, street, landscape, and "light", I almost never ever see colour and think - wow - i want to work that into a picture somehow.
That said, I do appreciate that there's value in considering this an exercise of working to improve my ability to capture colour in a satisfying way... but... my time is somewhat limited, the light and weather have not been particularly cooperative, and I've spent most of the last few weeks under the weather for one boring reason or another. Add to that the fact that the rainbow projects that I find most appealing are the ones that fill the frame with colour - and that is why relying on what I see as I am out and about just does not seem satisfying to me.
I hope that doesn't make me sound elitist - I do very much appreciate those who are able to simply see and capture colour, but for some reason, I can't seem to do it. Even the simplest thing - a bowl of raspberries, or a bunch of blue gummy bears - while a picture taken by someone else may look compelling to me, when I try, it seems to come out feeling all wrong.
Interesting conversations here and I enjoyed reading your considered responses and understanding how you are inspired in your photography. I also am thankful to know how you are getting the coloured backgrounds as I was wondering. Quite agree with you that the colours that fill the frame in the rainbow month are the ones that most appeal. And that is why I like yours so much.
