The sign says “Dette Huus har den i Livet Velbaarne Fru Barbara Helene Høyer, Enke av Hr. Sø-Captain Carl Ulrich Rumohr, der døde 27. februar 1785, ved Testamente foræret til en Skole for Strømsøe Byes fattige Børn".
It basically say that the widow Barbara Helene Høyer, in her will, left this building as a school for the poor children of the town.
