I bought this puffin while visiting the Faroe Islands this summer, but never quite found the time to assemble it. It looked a bit complicated, so I waited for a moment with both time and calm. In the end, it turned out to be much simpler than it appeared.
When I turned 25, I received a stuffed puffin as a birthday gift. It stood in the living room for years. When I later moved back to Norway, it didn’t come with me. It stayed behind, and now stands in my daughter’s home. It felt right to leave it there.
So when I saw this puffin in a souvenir shop in the Faroes, I wanted one of my own. Most of them were smaller, but when I finally found one in full scale, I didn’t hesitate.
Now it stands in my living room — a quiet reminder of the original, and of the years in between.
I love puffins. My husband has seen them many times when sailing in western Scotland and I met them on the Isles of Scilly. I only just discovered their other name is Sea Parrot.
