Frozen Afterthought

I came home around one in the morning, so the editing of yesterday’s image had to wait.
When I looked out the window later today, I was actually searching for the birds — especially the pair of robins that sometimes visit. My wife has taken a particular interest in them and places a little food on the ground under the car.

But instead of birds, I noticed these icicles hanging from the thuja hedge.

Snow had gathered on top of the hedge and melted slightly in yesterday’s sun. During the night the temperature dropped sharply, and the water froze again — forming these delicate, narrow icicles. Small reminders of how quickly winter can reshape even the most ordinary garden view.

Today’s photograph didn’t require a long walk or frozen fingers. Sometimes the motif is right outside the window — quietly waiting.
