Red-crested Pochard by oldjosh

Red-crested Pochard

A dull cloudy and windy visit to Attenborough Nature reserve not much activity on the lakes or the trees and bushes. Ducks congregate near the visitor center where they sell duck food and these were among them.

Red-crested pochard are the only fresh water duck, with a black belly and is a rare visitor. They are often kept on ornamental lakes; a few pairs breed in southern England but are likely to be escapees from these lakes.
They are diving ducks that like deep lakes preferably with a fringe of reeds but in shallow water they will feed reaching down or upturning like surface feeding ducks.
Super shot and a new one to me. Fav.
