I had read about this winding wheel at the former entrance of Calverton Colliery so went to find it.
The plaque on the wall states 'This memorial is dedicated to Calverton Colliery and it's workforce. Out of the darkness came forth light.
On the plaque in the center of the wheel are the names of the 17 men who lost their lives at the colliery and was unveiled by the daughter of the last man to be killed at Calverton Colliery
