Well, I searched my house, high and low, and in every little collectible box I own and all I found was one marble! So I ran to the pharmacy to pick up my film and was hoping they'd have a bag of play marbles to fill in my picture; but, they didn't!! The manager has come to recognize me since I've started getting my 35mm film processed and put on CDs there and we got to chatting. I told her about The 365 Project and how much fun I'm having with it and then told her today's word was "aggie" and my difficulty in finding only one marble in my house. It's funny how easily people become excited about 365 because she immediately began to offer suggestions on how to shoot just one lonely marble and here is one of the things she suggested- the marble in the middle of some glass stones. I think I'm going to print off a copy of this and give her a thank you card for saving the day! (o:
I was really thankful for the suggestion and knew it would make a nice shot. I really appreciate your enthusiastic comments! Thanks again to one and all!
This is a lovely shot, it is amazing how people catch on to 365, I have been in Edinburgh this week and have found it you stop to take a shot suddenly a group of tourists stop to see it they are missing something, strange people camera folk lol
unbelievable, ann! this morning i was looking through the boys' toy box because i know they used to play with marbles. didn't find any. i found one in my bedroom drawer, but it's just a solid colour. i wanted those play marbles from when we were young! so i'm still on the hunt for marbles!
you got a good suggestion for your shot. very nice! there's a place where i will go after work to see if they have those glass marbles. it makes me wish i have a time machine and i can go back just to borrow or shoot a photo of the marbles we had when we were kids. of the memories this prompt is rousing in me! if i don't find any, there's the safety of the swap words (again!).
@melorac lol Carole- I was walking on a nature trail the other day and decided to take some shots of the fiddle head ferns by this fallen tree. A couple was walking toward me and I finished my shots walked past them and said hello. The next thing I hear is the fellow telling the lady that I must be a nature photographer and I was probably shooting the termites in the fallen tree. Oh my- I have moved up in the world!!
@kerristephens thanks Kerri! @paulavdmerwe Thank you Paula! @summerfield lol Vikki! It looks like one marble is the official quota! Every aggie shot I've seen so far is of one marble!
@beachradish Thanks Beachradish! I know- these are some of your favorites!
I love this photo, Ann! It's beautiful ... and what a great idea. I suppose that there were other ways to shoot it too (and you would have thought of one, I know!) But love this and the colors and lighting are fantastic.
@simster Thanks Simmy. This was a bit tricky because the marble and stones were in a glass jar, so there were reflections all over the place! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @annaluceya Thanks Anna! @espyetta Thank you MaryBeth. I think I used the "Intrepid" effect in Picmonkey on this. I was trying a bunch of different things and I think that's the one I kept. It toned down the brightness and put the shadowing around the edges. And thank you so much for the fav!! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! @karenann Thank you Karenann. I wasn't sure how I was going to photograph it, but I'd just purchased a toy airplane in case I needed to do one of the substitute words!
@ulpiphotos Thank you Ulpi! @filsie65 Thank you Phil!
Since I was photographing these things in the bottom of a glass bowl/candle holder, it gave me the ability to play around with a number of placements. I liked the unusual position of the marble in this one- it really made it the center of attention.
@steeler Thank you Howard! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole!
Since I only had one marble and I wasn't go to drive all around the world to get more, I liked the suggestion of the store manager. But I still had to make the marble the focal point of the picture, rather than the pile which included the marble. I felt this shot put the marble in focus but the processing added to that by bringing out the colors of the marble too. I used Picmonkey for this shot and tried their "Intrepid" effect. @sangwann Thank you Dione! @mhatch Thank you Mark!
I have to give credit to the store manager for this. Until I had talked to her, I wasn't sure how I was going to shoot this one little marble.
@cornefunproject Thank you Corne! @mrssmith Thank you Carla! @sfeldphotos Thank you Sam!
Before I found the marble I was resigned to using one of the substitute words. When I did find the marble, I wasn't sure how I'd shoot it, but I did like the colors of it. After running to the store and taking this shot, I was really glad the store manager was so interested in helping me pull off the shot! It was a fun process with a nice result!
@sharritta Thanks Sharon! I had just the right stones from my niece's wedding a few years ago. @deniseinindy Thank you Denise! Thank you so much for the fav!! lol I'm the one who made up this list and I have managed to challenge even myself with a few of the words!! And yes, I did pick up another toy to shoot in the not too distant future! @cimes1 Thanks Carole!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry! I was joking with someone- probably on their photo- saying that the reason you can't find them in the stores is because it's now a Wii game!
@potsbypam Thanks Pam! It was a good one- and saved the day! @alia_801 Thanks Alia! Yes, the "intrepid" effect in Picmonkey brought out the colors a bit better than the unprocessed shot so I kept it.
@juleswoome Thank you Julie! I can't really claim any credit for the idea though. I feel like an tv commercial when I say it came to me via my CVS lady! @lisjam1 lol Lisa- I like your pun! I've been telling people the reason you can't find marbles anymore is because they turned them into a Wii game! @prttblues Thanks Bev! I just swirled them around the inside of a glass bowl/candle holder until I liked the arrangement and then took the shot!
@photodreamm I am in 365 heaven!! I really do try to treat this project as a creative outlet and not get focused on reaching the PP but you know, when it happens, it really is a great feeling. But I didn't get there because of what I did- it really is the appreciation of the people that look at your pictures and that is what means the most to me- that people enjoy the pictures I take. Thanks Rachael!! It's been fun meeting you through the April A Challenge and I'll be following you so I can keep seeing your shots!
@sabine Thanks Sabine! I'm looking forward to hearing your comments and hopefully our pictures will inspire one another to see our surroundings in new and different ways. Now, get out those marbles and start shooting! lol
@shirljess Thank you Shirley!
@wardie Thank you Paul!
@woot Thank you Davide!
